Madelyn Rose Potter is finally here!!
Everything got kicked off at 2:00am on Sunday 7/8/07 when Karin's water broke. Mike said "That's nice", and promptly went back to sleep knowing that it was perhaps his last good chance for a nap for a few days. Karin's contractions started getting more interesting around 4:00am and 7:30am we were dashing off to Evergreen Hospital. By 8:00am we were in the delivery room. Kathryn Leaty (a close friend of Karin's) joined us there for the birth. Baby girl was sunny-side up and giving Karin a incredible dose of back labor. Karin's had planned on a natural birth, but toward the end was asking for drugs. But the midwife, Kathryn & I all cheered her on and kept her focused and watched Madelyn come into the world at 9:23 a.m. In reality, there was really no time to administer any drugs! Mom did a amazing job despite the pain and challenges the came up. I'm at a lose for the words to describe the wave of emotions that came over us, what a wonderful day.

Madelyn took some fluid on the the way out and needed help with her breathing. Within 10 minutes after birth she was upstairs at in the Neo-Natal ward being attended to. She began breathing a short-time later, after her lungs cleared up. She improved rapidly while Mike sat transfixed beside her side.
It's never fun to find yourself in the middle of a scene from "ER", but it was comforting to watch all the Doctors, Nurses and the MidWife do their work, she was in good hands. Madelyn remained in the Neo-Natal ward for monitoring until we were discharged on Wednesday July 11th around noon.
Baby, Mom & Dad are now at home getting to know each other while the cats look on in envy at all attention this little bundle of joy is getting.
With any luck the joker that turned up the thermostat in Seattle today will back it down so we can all get some much needed rest. We'll post more pictures and updates on this website so we don't annoy everybody with our "baby-spam" :)

She's gorgeous! Nice work, Mike!
Karin's (and any woman who gives birth in my option) is the real hero of course.
Congratulations, Karin! No one can quite prepare you for the feeling of pushing out a baby, huh? Pretty fantastic experience. Mike, an old lady once told my husband that "a man isn't a man until he's had a daughter." I guess you're a man now. :) NanC

Congratulations to you new little family. You have a beautiful daughter and you gave her my all time favorite name! As Memere would say, "these will be the best times of your lives." And it's true.
