Karin's Pictures

We found a few pictures from Karin's album. Helen (Karin's mom) kept notes on the back of the pictures so we can compare Madelyn and Karin's pictures. The picture above is Karin and her Dad, Ken at one month.

Madelyn at 6 weeks above and Karin at one month below. Where the chubby cheeks came from we don't know :)

Karin at 9 months in the tub, this was too cute to pass up.

DVD anybody & Old Baby Pictures

If anybody wants a DVD of the first month drop us a email.

Thank goodness parents seem to save most everything baby related. A trip to my parents house (Mike) yielded a treasure trove of baby pictures. I've posted a few this week. We'll crack Karin's childhood trunk sometime this week and include some of her early childhood pictures on the next post.

Week 6

Life with a 6 week old is always full of surprises. A few nights ago Madelyn discovered her tongue at 3:00am. Why 3:00am was the magic hour we don't know but she started smacking and sucking on her tongue so loud it woke both of us up. Nighttimes are always fun, It will be a few more weeks before she can sleep though the night but for now she wakes up to feed twice. As long as we avoid looking her in the eyes and even talking to her she usually justs eats and thankfully goes back to bed. From the sounds of her screams the car seat is really just a torture device, she can make it down the street as far as the horseshoe saloon before she figures out she really does not want to be in it. Normally that's where I would like to pull over and have a beer to cope with the screams but I'm actually getting used to them (Or I'm loosing some of my hearing). She showed good progess at her doctor's appointment the other day. Did you know that babies are born without kneecaps, isn't that crazy?!

5 weeks old and still kickin

Madelyn seemed to not like her swing so we tried a glider this week with big success given her smile in this picture. She loves her time in the baby slings and I have taken her on several hour long walks while Mom naps. She smiles more now, to the delight of everybody around her.

4 Weeks

It's hard to imagine that 4 weeks have gone by. 4 weeks of wonderful surprises and a few train wrecks tossed in for fun. We helped to put on a baby shower for a friend yesterday at our house. Who would of ever thought that it would have taken 48 hours to prepare for it :)

More Newborn Pictures

We received the remainder of our newborn pictures yesterday, here are a few more. Madelyn is starting to follow objects, we catch her head turning from side to side as she stares at her mobile. Light and dark objects also seem to draw her attention, like a shade that is 1/2 way drawn across a window. She likes her baths as long as she's part way covered up with a washcloth so as not to get cold.

You Tube part II

I wanted to buy a Mac these past few days. Editing video on a PC can be frustrating to say the least but I seem to have the bugs worked out, here is some more footage. I'll have more pictures later today or tomorrow.

Madelyn continues to do what 3 week old babies do, eat, sleep and look cute.

iPoo

Well the fussy baby period has begun, its great that she is awake more but sometimes she just does know what to do with herself. She's asleep on my chest right now while I peck away on the keyboard one-handed.

At times Madelyn has an endless appetite for Milk, there is nothing that she loves more. If we are not burping her we are watching her devour another meal, babies are amazing. Her iPoo outfit seems appropriate for any infant. Mom's new nickname is Input and Dad's has become Output.

You Tube here we come

I uploaded a video to YouTube this morning also:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCi7tUZc-rA

Madelyn has pleased us with a few four hours stints of sleep at night. She still sounds like a little piggy at night with all of her cute little grunts but that's ok by us. If she is a little grunter then she will be out little grunter :)

We went to the Evergreen hospital 0-3 month old parent support class yesterday as well. It's nice to connect with other parents who have just had a child. She also had her first bath in the big tub with Mom last night and seemed to like it.

Baby Sling

The baby sling arrived yesterday and it's a big hit. Madelyn spent hours in it yesterday and came out with "bed-head". She also decided to go 4 hours between feedings last night for the first time, much to our delight. She continues to eat like a champ and weighs just over 9lbs now. Her belly-button scab fell off the other day and grossed Mom out. Dad was going to save it for the scrapbook but was told that was going too far. Other proof of her growth is that she's out of the newborn diapers and into the 8-14lbs'ers.

YMCA?

Who knew that kids are born with the Village People reflex, they never told me about this in any of my baby books? All I need to find is an Indian costume and teach her how to do the 'M,C&A' and we'll be all set :)

"Really Dad, grunt...grunt I mean it this time grunt... put the camera down and go read a book or something."

Sleeping like a baby

We had the photographer who took Karin's maternity picture come over the other day, here are a few pictures that she took. Madelyn continues to be more and more alert each day and like all newborns seem to love feeding time. Feed, burp, sleep, diaper change, repeat...... Sleep for Mom and Dad is coming back in spurts of 3 hour naps between feeding times.

I'm awake

Everybody loves a burp now and again. Madelyn continues to eat well and is more alert for longer periods now to the delight of Mom and Dad.

Picture Day

We have a real Photographer coming today to take some pictures today. I got fed up with my small Sony digital camera and bought a "real" camera yesterday, so you'll see allot more pictures this week. We would also like to thank Christian and Karen for recommending "The Happiest Baby on the Block" book.

http://www.thehappiestbaby.com/

We have been able to have 2-3 hour of peaceful sleep between feedings at night and it's made a world of difference. Our RN at the doctors appointment yesterday said that we are doing better than 99% of the train wrecks that she normally has in her office. It was nice to here from her that things are going ok. We cheered when the RN told us that Madelyn is back to her birth weight and continues to eat well.

Our cat Symon seems to show more interest in Madelyn, whileWyatt strangely enough could care less.

Home Sweet Home

Here are a few more pictures. Today was spent mostly catching up on sleep :) How come nobody tells you newborns seem to decide that a good time to go to the bathroom is after you take their diaper off? And why did it take this happening three times today to remember!?

We promise many more pictures in the days to come. Now if only Swaddling would work for Wyatt (our cat) we would all be happy.

Madelyn Rose's Birthday

Madelyn Rose Potter is finally here!!

Everything got kicked off at 2:00am on Sunday 7/8/07 when Karin's water broke. Mike said "That's nice", and promptly went back to sleep knowing that it was perhaps his last good chance for a nap for a few days. Karin's contractions started getting more interesting around 4:00am and 7:30am we were dashing off to Evergreen Hospital. By 8:00am we were in the delivery room. Kathryn Leaty (a close friend of Karin's) joined us there for the birth. Baby girl was sunny-side up and giving Karin a incredible dose of back labor. Karin's had planned on a natural birth, but toward the end was asking for drugs. But the midwife, Kathryn & I all cheered her on and kept
her focused and watched Madelyn come into the world at 9:23 a.m. In reality, there was really no time to administer any drugs! Mom did a amazing job despite the pain and challenges the came up. I'm at a lose for the words to describe the wave of emotions that came over us, what a wonderful day.

Madelyn took some fluid on the the way out and needed help with her breathing. Within 10 minutes after birth she was upstairs at in the Neo-Natal ward being attended to. She began breathing a short-time later, after her lungs cleared up. She improved rapidly while Mike sat transfixed beside her side.

It's never fun to find yourself in the middle of a scene from "ER", but it was comforting to watch all the Doctors, Nurses and the MidWife do their work, she was in good hands. Madelyn remained in the Neo-Natal ward for monitoring until we were discharged on Wednesday July 11th around noon.

Baby, Mom & Dad are now at home getting to know each other while the cats look on in envy at all attention this little bundle of joy is getting.

With any luck the joker that turned up the thermostat in Seattle today will back it down so we can all get some much needed rest. We'll post more pictures and updates on this website so we don't annoy everybody with our "baby-spam" :)
